Lola and the Red Balloon

Lola got her first balloon this weekend at the grocery store. It was a big hit. I see lots of balloons in her future.

Swimming

Yesterday, Scott and I took Lola swimming for the first time. She was a little hesitant at first, but by the end she loved it! We went to Optimist Pool in Raleigh with the Scott's brothers and all the kids. Lola loved watching her cousins play.

Scott and Lola in the big pool which in indoors!

Lola's feet got a little pruney after spending an hour or so in the pool!

Favorite Things

Growing up, we all had our favorite thing - a special blanket, a stuffed animal, a Cabbage Patch kid or the Millenium Falcon. I often wondered what Lola's favorite would be - the blanket from Kelly, the rabbit from my parents, the bear from Scott's. Lola's current favorite is a dollar bill and a purple mirror from her My Pretty Learning Purse. They are the first toys she looks for in the morning. She carries them around with her when she is crawling. The are always close by. I am sure that many other favorites will come and go but for now the crinkle dollar and the purple mirror are the chosen ones.

Ube: The Yam

Ube is the loving nickname we gave Lola when I found out I was pregnant. Ube Oubre is my great, great Uncle and I just loved the name. Today I found out that ube is also a purple yam popular in the Philippines.

It makes great cakes.

and great candy

and great ice cream

They say you learn something new everyday. Today ube and yesterday I learned that Vogie, a popular abbreviation for our last name, means vain. Poor Lola - she is a Filipino grandmother who resides in bird mountain and she is a vain, purple vegetable. I am going to stay away from naming things or giving them nicknames for a while.

6 Month Check Up

Lola had her 6 month check up yesterday. Her report from the doctor said "Excellent" so we must be doing something right.

Stats
Height/Length: 26 3/4 inches
Weight: 15 lb 12oz
Head: 16 7/8 inches

Lola is holding strong in the 80th percentile in height where she has been since birth. She is 43th in weight which is up from the 32nd percentile at her 4 month checkup but still down from the whopping 98th at birth. Her head has gone from the 40s to the 60s, so she is starting to take after the kids in her class.

She is hitting all of her milestones and even some for 7 and 8 month olds. Apparently sitting on your own is a 7 month milestone and getting on all 4s and going backwards is a 8th month one. The doctor recommended baby proofing soon. Looks like Scott and I have some work cut out for us.

Unfortunately, Lola does have another ear infection and her doctor recommended that we go see and ENT. It looks like Lola is going to have tubes in her future.

Lola got 3 shots and was a champ. We have such a strong, brave little girl.
